Flowers, herbs, and our own honey
At Loonsche Land, we love showing where your food comes from. That’s why at Restaurant De Proeftuyn, we cook mainly with seasonal, local produce. In the nearby kitchen garden – the Pluktuyn – you’ll spot the flowers and herbs that end up on your plate. In the mornings, our youngest guests are often welcome to help with the harvest.
Food and drinks at Efteling Loonsche Land
The holiday park even has its own craft beer, ’t Verdiende Loon. The hops used to brew it grow right here on the grounds. Not far away are the beehives, home to our honeybees, who help with pollination. The honey they make is used in our dishes and drinks – and it’s also for sale at the Loonsche Land shop.

Run, play, and explore
Kids can have the time of their lives at Loonsche Land. Dash across bridges, climb and scramble along obstacle courses through the water. Build a den out of sticks, search for bugs, or play hide and seek among the trees. There’s no such thing as being bored here. Climb the real lookout tower to spot birds, and in the animal barn – de Hooijmijt – you can pet the animals (and yes, there’s a fun slide too!). Love a treasure hunt? Follow the Keienspoor trail – marked with animal footprints – right through the nature area. Keep your eyes peeled to spot the real animals along the way. From bats to butterflies, and if you’re out early in the morning, you might just spot a deer.

Loonsche Land Nature Area
The Loonsche Land nature area lies right next to the holiday park of the same name and covers around 50 hectares. It’s open to everyone. You’ll find deciduous and pine forests, tree-lined paths, hedgerows, heathland, meadows, and fields. Even before the holiday park opened in 2017, Efteling was working on restoring the nature area. Trees were removed and replanted, watering holes were added for animals to drink from, and extra nesting and sleeping boxes were installed for bats.
These days, we mostly let nature take its own course. For instance, we leave dead wood where it falls – it’s great for mammals, insects, birds, and fungi. On the fields, hobby farmers grow unusual crops. If you’re lucky, you might catch them working the land using traditional farming methods. The beech-lined paths are especially beautiful – and home to lots of bats, and even pine martens. If you go for a walk, don’t miss the impressive solitary copper beech. And keep your ears open for birdsong along the way.
