Eight typically Dutch treats and attractions

Typically Dutch!

If you are planning to visit Efteling soon then make sure you don’t miss these typically Dutch treats and attractions!

Ride through a typical Dutch landscape

Take a ride on the Children's Railway. The faster you pedal, the faster you drive through meadows full of barns and windmills. Typically Dutch!

Herring Bites

For freshly baked fish and other fish specialities, go to the De Meermin restaurant in Ruigrijk. Choose a typically Dutch herring sandwich with onions. You can even order a large juicy gherkin to go with it. But the crispy fried cod with potato wedges is also highly recommended!

Pancakes and Poffertjes

The most delicious pancakes are made at ‘Polles Kitchen’. Choose from a selection of savoury toppings like cheese and bacon or a delicious sweet topping, think chocolate sauce, ice-cream and sprinkles - There's something for everyone! Poffertjes are small, thick pancakes dusted with icing sugar and a super tasty snack with a cup of coffee. If you pop into the pancake house, ‘t Poffertje, you can see them being made.

The nostalgic Anton Pieck Square

In this Old Dutch village square you go back in time. Take a ride on the authentic carousels from the eighteen hundreds and the antique chair swings. Be sure to visit the Efteling Museum for an extra dose of nostalgia.

Snack wall at Frau Boltes Küche

At Efteling you can buy a snack, such as a frikandel, cheese soufflé or croquette, from a wall! Yes, really… it’s a typically Dutch thing to do. The wall consists of many small compartments with a tasty treat behind each window, pick your snack and enjoy! You'll find snack walls at the East Station, the ‘Smulpaap’ and the revamped ‘Frau Boltes Küche’ restaurant, next to the new family roller coaster Max & Moritz.

Visit the Old Dutch sweet shop

In the Marerijk, near the pancake restaurant ’t Poffertje’, you will find the Old Dutch sweet shop ‘de Soete Inval’. In this small shop you can choose from all kinds of sweet treats: lollipops, candy canes, sweeties, liquorice drops (liquorice is a firm favourite for the Dutch). Fill your own sweet bag or opt for delicious Efteling chocolates.

Potato on a stick

You can of course use potatoes in a Dutch stew, but the best way to enjoy them is when they are fried on a stick! This spiralled potato snack is served with different toppings, choose from herby, smoky or salty, it’s available from ‘De Eigenheymer’ at four different locations around the park… it’s a must!

Traditional Bites

Near Aquanura, on the Dwarrel Square, is the Dutch pastry stand. Be sure to try the delicacy, which is often eaten in the Netherlands at New Year's Eve: the artisanal deep fried donut ball. Alternatively, choose from a wide range of other delicacies; currant buns, apple fritters or warm waffles with icing sugar, whipped cream and chocolate… yummy!
