Watch the Official Opening of the Efteling Grand Hotel
01 August 2025With a symbolic pull of the giant ribbon on the building, the Efteling Grand Hotel officially opened its doors this morning. Come take a look with us!

After a long period of construction, furnishing and preparation, the magical moment is finally here! Efteling’s newest place to stay, the Efteling Grand Hotel, is now officially open.
Behind the scenes, an incredible amount of hard work has gone into making this dream a reality. From laying the very first stone to designing the menus, from elegant interiors to a top-notch service level. Team members from across Efteling have worked together with love, craftsmanship and an eye for detail to create something special. We couldn’t be prouder!

A Brief Look Back at the Construction Phase
Construction of the Efteling Grand Hotel began in the autumn of 2022. Within just a few weeks, around 10,000 m³ of sand was excavated behind the House of the Five Senses. Soon after, 380 piles were drilled into the ground, stretching a total of 6 kilometres in length, topped with 2,500 m³ of concrete for the foundation. Everything stayed on schedule until September 2023, when the bankruptcy of one supplier caused a few months’ delay.
At the start of 2024, the first prefabricated façade elements of the largest hotel within the World of Efteling were hoisted into place with the help of a large crawler crane. These elements arrived ready-made with plasterwork, frames, windows and doors, and were mounted on site. The hotel was then assembled floor by floor—from the ground level all the way to the rooftop, like a giant puzzle.
A camera installed at the Efteling Theatre captured the construction between April 2023 and March 2025. These images, combined with brand-new hyperlapse footage, offer a stunning visual journey through the making of the Efteling Grand Hotel.
Island of the Five Senses
The construction of the largest hotel within the World of Efteling also marked the beginning of a brand-new area at the main entrance: the Island of the Five Senses. This is where all visits begin and end—in the very heart of the World of Wonders. The square between the main entrance and the new hotel is a surprising green oasis for hotel guests and day visitors alike. As you stroll along, the lush landscaping of trees, shrubs and perennials slowly reveals more and more of the hotel. The 9-metre tall and 16-metre wide arched gateway, which leads visitors into the park, offers a truly grand entrance.
World’s Largest Ribbon on the Efteling Grand Hotel
To celebrate the festive opening of the Efteling Grand Hotel, Efteling placed the world’s largest ribbon on the façade of the brand-new luxury hotel. The ribbon measures 16.74 metres wide and 17.15 metres high. During the opening ceremony this morning, it was officially announced that Efteling has broken the Guinness World Record for ‘Largest Ribbon Bow’. A Guinness World Records adjudicator was on site to present the certificate to CEO Fons Jurgens.
To mark the opening of the Efteling Grand Hotel in true Efteling style, we literally tied a ribbon around it! “We’ve been looking forward to this moment for a long time,” says CEO Fons Jurgens. “We’re adding the largest hotel ever to our overnight offerings, with a new level of refinement and luxury. And for the very first time, it’s now possible to stay within the park borders of Efteling itself. That calls for a grand opening—and this Guinness World Record is the cherry on top!”
