New Efteling attraction Hooghmoed opens on 1 May 2026
24 February 2026On 1 May 2026, the brand-new free-fall attraction Hooghmoed will open right next to Baron 1898. Will you step into one of the three lift towers to sweep the chimney?
Hooghmoed is a thrilling free-fall experience for brave visitors from 90 centimetres tall. This attraction is specially designed for little daredevils: bold youngsters who aren’t afraid of a high-altitude adventure. Of course, grown-ups are welcome too. With sound effects and swirling mist, Hooghmoed turns every ride into a truly exciting experience.
Three towers with a six-metre free-fall
Next to the gold mine Baron 1898 stands the smelter, where all the gold is melted down. Its imposing chimney needs to be swept regularly. That’s why the Baron is looking for courageous chimney sweeps!
Ten chimney sweeps at a time ascend in one of the three lift towers. As they gently rotate at a height of 9.5 metres, the view over the mine area is spectacular. But then the Witte Wieven sabotage the ride! A steel cable snaps and the lift plunges several metres down into mist and smoke. The lift rises again, spins around and shakes the chimney sweeps up properly. After a minute and a half, the lift towers come to a standstill and the next team of chimney sweeps can step in.
Extra accessible for visitors with disabilities
Chimney sweeps on Hooghmoed must be at least 90 centimetres tall. They may ride the free-fall tower independently when accompanied by someone who is at least 130 centimetres tall. Each lift tower includes a seat that has been specially adapted for visitors with disabilities. A transfer from a wheelchair to the seat is required. Hooghmoed is not suitable for children under 90 centimetres, pregnant women, or guests with heart conditions and/or back injuries.
