New attraction in 2029: Missie Luminar
09 July 2026From 2029, you can join an exciting journey of light, speed and adventure in Missie Luminar, Efteling’s first suspended launch coaster.
First suspended launch coaster at Efteling
Missie Luminar is the first suspended launch coaster at Efteling: a roller coaster where the vehicles hang below the track and are launched. Are you ready for the mission of the century?
As a missionaut, you’ll start your expedition in a scientific institute. Here you’ll get instructions about the mission and, together with seventeen other missionauts, take your place in the vehicle. The real adventure starts with a spectacular launch. The intense ride lasts more than two minutes and is full of speed, surprising elements, and several moments of weightlessness. Will you manage to reach the ultimate goal and break the light barrier?
Around the attraction, you’ll feel the atmosphere of wondrous natural phenomena, experiments, and 19th-century journeys of discovery. This thrill ride, which costs 50 million, is expected to open in 2029.
Theme area addition
"Missie Luminar will be a fantastic addition to our thrill ride line-up. This type of roller coaster is completely new for Efteling. The top speed goes up to 80 km/h, but it may feel even faster to you," says Fons Jurgens, Efteling’s CEO. "It’s going to be unique and special, also because of the location. Missie Luminar is an addition to the theme area The Island of the Five Senses. Visitors will see the speeding vehicles as soon as they enter to start their day at Efteling. We’ll need to be patient a bit longer, but we’re already looking forward to the first reactions from our visitors."
The Island of the Five Senses
Missie Luminar, along with the House of the Five Senses, Efteling Grand Hotel, Efteling Theater, and Aquanura, makes up The Island of the Five Senses, close to the Main Entrance. This theme area is a vibrant place of journeys, arrivals, and departures, where there’s something for every visitor to discover.
