Efteling Theme Park Director Coen Bertens leaves after 23 years

The composition of the five-member board of directors of the Dutch theme park Efteling will change from the beginning of next year. Mr. Coen Bertens, director of the Park business unit, will leave the Efteling organization with effect from 1 February 2021. After a wonderful career of 23 years in the World of Wonders, Mr Bertens will enthusiastically deploy his knowledge and skills elsewhere.

Coen Bertens: "Efteling is a dynamic organisation that moves with the times. This also applies to me, it is time for a next step in my career. I look forward to inspiring others with everything I have been able to learn here in recent years!"

Under the leadership of Coen Bertens, Efteling has taken great steps in establishing collaborations with other theme parks, increasing cooperation between Efteling colleagues and enhancing the visitor experience. Mr Bertens will remain responsible for the Efteling theme park until February, when he will officially pass on the baton to Mrs Nicole Scheffers, who will be the new Theme Park Director. Mr Koen Sanders will be appointed Hotels & Resorts Director, in addition to his current role as Commerce, Creation & Development Director.

As of 1 February 2021, the Efteling Board of Directors officially consists of four people: Mr Fons Jurgens (Chief Executive Officer), Mr Daan van Baarsen (Chief Financial Officer), Mrs Nicole Scheffers (Theme Park Director) and Mr Koen Sanders (Commerce, Creation & Development and Hotels & Resorts Director).
