Special palace garden to adorn the roof of the new Efteling attraction

In Efteling, the theme park in the south of Holland, the new attraction Symbolica: Palace of Fantasy is now being built. The palace is being built in honour of the 65th jubilee of the theme park, and will open its doors to the public this summer. Today Efteling is publishing a sketch of the palace garden that is being created on the roof of the attraction. The garden is unique for its theme-based design, in which approximately 800 solar panels have been included for the generation of sustainable energy.

Palace garden
The sketch shows a roof garden at a height of nine meters, which emphasizes the magnificence of the Palace of Fantasy. “Gardens are an important part of palaces all over the world and Symbolica's palace garden is partly inspired by the gardens of other large palaces”, says Olaf Vugts, Efteling's Chief Imagineering Officer.

Sustainable enchantment
The creation of the palace garden and the solar panels fits in with Efteling. The organisation has always been dedicated to nature, the environment and sustainability. When Efteling expands attractions and buildings, it is careful to take the beautiful natural surroundings in which it is situated into account. For instance, Efteling has a sustainable surface water system (Klaterwater) and the organisation generates sustainable energy through geothermal heating and cooling at various locations in Efteling. Efteling's visitors will still have a unique and natural view of the park from the Pagode Thai temple. It is expected that the solar panels will be installed in April, after which the roof will be covered with 800 m2 of sedum (plants as roof vegetation).

Symbolica: Palace of Fantasy
As of this summer, Efteling's visitors will be able to experience the new covered family attraction Symbolica, an enchanting palace in which nothing is what it seems. Everyone is invited for an audience with the King. Magic Jester Pardoes will ensure that a visit is surprising and enchanting. Visitors will be led through secret corridors and royal rooms while continuously being amazed.
