Efteling theme park registers record number of UK visitors

Efteling – the fairytale theme park in the south of Holland – is set to welcome a record number of UK visitors in May 2018 with a 74% YOY uplift

During the UK’s half term week starting on 28 May, over half of the guests checking-in to Holiday Village Efteling Bosrijk will be from the UK (51.8%). This marks a record high for UK visitors to the park which is reporting a 74% YOY uplift in sales for 2018.

Efteling’s other two on-site accommodation offerings, Holiday Efteling Village Loonsche Land and the Efteling Hotel also report significant UK numbers with 33.4% and 24.7% of the total visitor mix respectively coming from the UK over half term.

Claire Hancer, Efteling’s first UK country manager recruited in 2015, has driven awareness and sales from the UK by working closely with trade partners focusing on transport links and partnerships. Recent trade activity includes a travel agent blitz in collaboration with P&O Ferries and the newly forged relationship with Shearings Holidays who have brought to market a four-night holiday package to Efteling including coach travel from the UK with two days in the park.

2018 has also seen an increase in travel options to the park with the new direct Eurostar service from London to Rotterdam, which has made the theme park more accessible from the UK and catapulted Efteling to the top of the list of desirable ‘short break, no fly’ destinations for British travellers.

Claire Hancer, UK Country Manager for Efteling Theme Park comments:

“We are delighted to see this significant growth in visitor numbers from the UK to Efteling Themepark Resort. The development of transport and package options to Efteling has led to it becoming a short-haul destination of choice for family holidays. We hope to see UK visitor numbers continue to rise throughout 2018 and look forward to further developing our work with our trade partners.”
