Drone flight shows empty Efteling in bloom

Dutch theme park makes a virtual visit possible with new footage

Although Efteling – the fairytale theme park in the south of Holland - is temporarily closed, visitors can now take a virtual flight through the empty park via new drone footage. This unprecedented period has been the first time since 2010 – when the theme park switched to opening 365 days of the year - that the park has had to close its doors.

As one of Europe’s most popular theme parks and in response to recent research* that shows that it is the number one-day attraction most missed by the Dutch during the Coronavirus pandemic, Efteling has released new drone footage and photos to show what the park currently looks like now that it is empty.

The new initiative allows families, fans and potential future visitors to tour Efteling virtually and experience the World of Wonders from their own home.

“Ordinarily, we welcome many visitors from all over Europe during Easter, but unfortunately this is not possible this year. It is very special to walk through the empty park now. With all its blooming flowers and plants, we don't want to keep the enchantingly beautiful place that Efteling is just to ourselves, ” says Chief Executive Officer Fons Jurgens.

The drone video shows iconic scenes in The Fairytale Forest like The Dragon and The Fairytale Tree, the real thrill rides like Python roller coaster with loops and dive coaster Baron 1898, but also follows along the oriental spheres of dark ride Fata Morgana.

The images clearly show how spring is making its mark around the park’s green spaces – among other things, 100,000 tulips and 30,000 spring flowers such as violets and forget-me-nots are in bloom.

Take a look at an enchanting, but quiet Efteling via the video and photos.
