Efteling releases details of Baron 1898 dive coaster’s course
Efteling theme park is currently busy constructing its latest attraction for genuine daredevils: the dive coaster Baron 1898. The rollercoaster has a mining theme and a distinctive appearance, based on the glory days in the history of mining. The highest point of the tower and the deepest section of mineshaft are already in sight and the track’s course is slowly taking shape.
Visitors who are at least 1.40 metres in height and who dare to enter the thrill ride from this summer onwards will be ushered into three lines as they enter the dive coaster’s terminal building. These ‘mine workers’ will be seated alongside each other in three rows of six people, on a train which holds a maximum of 18 people, before being raised to a height of almost 30 metres. The search for gold begins with a treacherous 37.5-metre freefall down into the mineshaft. Subsequently, visitors roar around a so-called Immelmann (a half loop with a half roll) at around 90 kilometres per hour, followed by a Zero-G roll (an inside out corkscrew during which visitors momentarily experience weightlessness) and a fast spiral.
“There’s no time to recover from the bloodcurdling dive. The entire ride, which lasts a full 130 seconds, is characterised by speed and sensation. The 501-metre track is being supplied by an expert in the field of dive coasters: the rollercoaster manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard Engineering (B&M), based in Switzerland.”
