New artisanal bakery for Efteling theme park in 2021
Max & Moritz Plein completed with Bäckerei Krümel
In winter 2021, Efteling – the fairytale theme park in the south of Holland - will open a new catering location: Bäckerei Krümel. The artisanal bakery will be located directly opposite the new family roller coaster Max & Moritz, which opened to the public last June. The bakery will provide a selection of freshly baked products from the oven, such as tray bakes, flat breads and pizzas, combined with roasted coffees and fresh juices. Bäckerei Krümel will seat 125 people inside and 50 outside on the square. Just like the adjacent Frau Boltes Küche, the building will be designed in the theme of the family roller coaster. With the arrival of the bakery, the Max & Moritz Plein is complete.
"Over recent years we have developed a vision for the Max & Moritz Plein, we are now taking the final step in the plan. The desire to expand the catering offering and offer more choice comes from a multi-year investment plan. With this attractive hospitality location, we ensure a better spread of visitors across the park, generate extra income and are aligning it more to the wishes of the guest. Visitors will see bakers at work all day finishing products for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Guests can take a quick bite or sit down to eat. The bakery completes the experience on the square. Those who pay close attention will see traces of the rascals Max and Moritz and the tricks that they play. In this way, our visitors will be pulled into the story of the two rascals even more", says Koen Sanders, Commerce, Creation & Development Director at Efteling.
Sustainable and healthy
Bäckerei Krümel will be built sustainably, using durable materials and equipment. There will be gas-free baking and heating. Extra care will be taken for waste separation and sustainable disposables will be used. Efteling offers a 'better choice' in the bakery with healthier alternatives such as wholemeal or vegetable varieties. Diet friendly and vegetarian fillings are also on the menu.
Max and Moritz as loaves-men in the oven
The two rascals Max and Moritz, known from a well-known 1865 German illustrated rhyming story by Wilhem Busch, live in a charming village with their mother Frau Schmetterling. They drive the villagers to despair with their boyish tricks. One evening, they are caught by the baker while trying to steal biscuits from the bakery. Then their fate seems sealed. The angry baker puts them in the oven like little loaves-men. However will this end...
