Fran (10) wins Efteling Fairytale Drawing Competition

Drawing gets place of honour in Efteling Museum

Efteling's 71st birthday was festively heralded today with the announcement of the winner of the Fairy Tale Drawing Competition. On Wednesday afternoon, 31 May, Flemish Fran Lenoir (10 years old) proudly admired her own drawing among the designs of Anton Pieck and Ton van de Ven, among others, in the Efteling Museum. Fran won the drawing competition for children up to 12 years old, which Efteling organised in honour of founder Anton Pieck's 128th birthday. From more than 350 entries, the expert jury chose her drawing as the best. "I am honoured. I never thought I would win a first prize. And it's my first drawing competition!" said Fran. In addition to the place of honour for her drawing, Fran from Bruges, Belgium, also won six Efteling tickets. The drawing will be on display in the Efteling Museum until 31 December 2023.

Many small events

Efteling designers and jury members of the Fairytale Drawing Competition Sander de Bruijn and Karel Willemen commented on the competition: "We are pleasantly surprised by so many beautiful, high-quality entries. We are delighted that the assignment 'a fairytale drawing' stirred so many children to participate. Fran's drawing stood out for its unusual and balanced composition. It is skilfully drawn and in a style all its own. You can go on an adventure in this colourful print, where there are many small events to discover. This has been worked on with loving attention."

Anton Pieck's first drawing competition
Anton Pieck won his first drawing competition at the age of 11 with a still life. It greatly strengthened him to continue doing what he loved most: drawing! With the Fairytale Drawing Competition, Efteling wanted to challenge children to follow their passion and use their imagination.
