Efteling production nominated for prestigious international children’s media award

Fairytales of Mr Sandman alongside Sesame Street in KidScreen shortlist

Last week, the unique production ‘Fairytales of Mr Sandman’ was nominated by the international institute and trade journal KidScreen for an award in the category of ‘Best non-animated or mixed series pre-school’. In this 10-episode children’s series, which was broadcast by KRO in 2010, Mr Sandman tells fairytales based on sand drawings.

Bart de Boer, Chairman and CEO of Efteling, reacts enthusiastically: “Once again, we have the chance to win an important award with one of our media productions and we’re incredibly proud of this. ‘Fairytales of Mr Sandman’ is distinctive in both its quality and its special format for this demographic, which is evident from this international recognition. Earlier this year, our children’s series Raveleijn received the Cinekid Kindercast public award, an important national award. The KidScreen nomination means that we are now also included among the top international players.”

In the children’s series ‘Fairytales of Mr Sandman’, viewers see how Mr Sandman brings the most beautiful fairytales to life through his magical sand drawings, in the workshop of his sand castle. The series is produced by Efteling Media in association with The Media Brothers (formerly studio L2). Following its transmission on KRO, ‘Fairytales of Mr Sandman’ has also been exported to various other countries, both within and outside Europe.

Alongside ‘Fairytales of Mr Sandman’, ‘Sesame Street’ from Sesame Workshop and ‘Driver Dan's Story Train’ from TwoFour54 and 3Line Media are also nominated in the category ‘Best non-animated or mixed series pre-school’. An international jury of experts, including members from Cartoon Network, BBC, Disney and Nickelodeon, will judge the nominations and choose a winner. The results of this prestigious competition will be announced during the annual KidScreen Festival, held on 9 February 2012 in New York (United States).
