This evening saw the official opening of the gateway into Efteling Village Bosrijk, a new holiday park right next to the theme park in Kaatsheuvel. A fairytale firework display greeted around 1,000 guests who are combining their stay with a few days visiting Winter Efteling. Woodland Cottages, Village Cottages and apartments have been built in typical Efteling style on the edge of the dunes of the Loonse en Drunense Duinen national park. With the opening of Efteling Village Bosrijk, the World of Efteling has become an attractive short-break destination for stays of three or four nights, thus widening the Efteling’s appeal to visitors from further afield in the Netherlands and neighbouring countries. With the investment totalling € 52 million, Efteling Village Bosrijk represents the biggest and most expensive project in the park’s history.
The spacious 17-hectare property offers diverse scenery including sand dunes, wooded areas, water and a village green. There are 99 detached Woodland Cottages and 26 linked Village Cottages (sleeping 6-8) with the use of natural building materials such as wood, stone and sand creating an authentic feel. The distinctive Gatehouse houses 24 apartments (sleeping 4) as well as all the central facilities including reception, the ‘Eethuys’ (Grand Café) and the ‘Badhuys’: a small indoor swimming pool with a baby and toddler pool with toys for the children to play with. The 54 apartments (sleeping 4) in the Manor House offer views over the Efteling Golf Park or over Efteling Village Bosrijk. There are eight specially adapted cottages and apartments for disabled guests and six for guests with respiratory difficulties, as well as 18 VIP cottages and apartments.
As the guardian of fairytales, Efteling has become known for its fairytale themes and it is no different at Efteling Village Bosrijk. This time, the popular children’s character Mr Sandman takes the lead role as the basis for the design and entertainment concepts.
All families staying at Efteling Village Bosrijk have unlimited access to the Efteling during their stay. The holiday park also offers many other special packages such as breakfast in the Efteling with fairytale friends or a special Efteling Evening held in an area of the park reserved exclusively for guests staying at Bosrijk.
Efteling Village Bosrijk has been planned and constructed with nature and the environment in mind. The plans for the holiday park were drawn up only after extensive research into the flora and fauna naturally present in the area and were executed in close consultation with the Brabantse Milieu Federatie and Natuurmonumenten preservation organisations. The environmentally friendly measures taken for Efteling Village Bosrijk are a natural extension of other initiatives – such as the helophyte filter and the central underground thermal energy storage system – already put in place for the theme park and the Golf Park several years ago.
