Efteling Theatre

Efteling Theatre

  • Efteling’s first live entertainment act took to the stage in 1954, two years after the Fairytale Forest opened. What began with a small-scale puppet theatre developed over the years into full-scale productions, making Efteling 3-time winner of the coveted Big E-award for best park show world-wide (1999, 2001 and 2003).
  • Providing professional live entertainment became increasingly important to the Efteling over the years and led to the opening of the Efteling Theatre in 2002. The theatre has excellent facilities, including a 1,200 seat auditorium, a spacious foyer and the “Applause” Theatre Restaurant. Efteling Theatre is the fifth largest theatre in the Netherlands.
  • Efteling Theatre in Kaatsheuvel is the third theatre in the Netherlands to include open-ended runs in its billing, along with the Circus Theatre in Scheveningen and Beatrix Theatre in Utrecht. This has put the Efteling Theatre on the theatrical map. Show goers can see a musical without having to buy a ticket to the park.
  • The Efteling Theatre staged its first musical with the family production Sleeping Beauty in the winter of 2003-2004. Many more musicals followed, including The Little Mermaid (2004-2005), My Dad the Magician (2005-2006), Annie (2006-2007), Cinderella (2007-2008) and The Sound of Music (2008-2009).
  • In addition to its in-house productions, Efteling introduced its first travelling production in the autumn of 2008 with The Fairytale Tree on Tour. The performance was based on the Efteling’s hit animated TV series The Fairytale Tree.
