After graduating from the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven, Ton van de Ven (1944) joined the ranks of Efteling’s design team in 1965. He began his career as a designer in the Design and Development Department, where he would later become creative director in 1989.
It was clear from the beginning that Ton was creative and talented. He was quick to adopt Anton Pieck’s distinctive style in addition to his own individual creations. He was a strong conceptual thinker and this, along with his talent for writing and his technical expertise, led him to produce many new attractions for the Efteling. The creepy castle ‘Spookslot’, the ship swing ‘Halve Maen’, the floating temple ‘Pagode’, Fata Morgana, the haunted house ‘Villa Volta’, the dream flight ‘Droomvlucht’, the House of the Five Senses and the People of Laaf were all Ton’s inventions. He also provided the basic concept for the Efteling Theatre.
Ton van de Ven has, without a doubt, made an invaluable contribution to the unique fairytale character and popularity of the Efteling. He retired in 2003.
